Cylinder volume calculator (cm³ and liters)
Find the volume of a cylinder using V = π × r² × h. Enter the radius and height in centimeters to get the result in cubic centimeters and liters.
Enter the radius and height to calculate the volume.
How it works
How the cylinder volume formula works
The volume of a cylinder is V = π × r² × h, where r is the radius of the circular base and h is the height. The base area π × r² is multiplied by the height to fill the solid.
Because the radius is squared, doubling the radius makes the volume four times larger, while doubling the height only doubles it.
From cm³ to liters
One liter equals 1000 cm³, so the calculator divides the cubic-centimeter result by 1000 to give liters. This is handy for tanks, bottles, and containers.
Frequently asked questions
›What is the formula for cylinder volume?
V = π × r² × h, where r is the base radius and h is the height.
›What units does this calculator use?
Enter the radius and height in centimeters; the result is shown in cm³ and liters.
›How do I convert cm³ to liters?
Divide the volume in cm³ by 1000, since 1 liter equals 1000 cm³.
›Do I use the radius or the diameter?
Use the radius. If you only have the diameter, divide it by 2 first.
›Is this calculator free?
Yes, it is completely free and works directly in your browser.
