How it works

How the tile calculator works

The calculator multiplies room length by room width to get the floor area, then divides by the area of one tile. Because no room tiles perfectly, it adds a 10% allowance for cuts and breakage and rounds up to a whole number of tiles.

Tile size is the side length of a square tile in centimeters, so a 30 cm tile covers 0.3 m by 0.3 m.

Why include a 10% waste allowance

Tiles get cut to fit edges and corners, and some break during handling or installation. A standard 10% waste allowance helps ensure you buy enough and keeps spares for future repairs.

Frequently asked questions

โ€บWhat does tile size mean?

It is the side length of a square tile in centimeters. A 30 cm tile measures 30 cm by 30 cm.
